He loves the holiday and goes all out every year — decorating, caroling, tree-trimming, and organizing the annual family photo . Everything is peachy-keen in Steve’s neat, organized world, complete with a wall calendar to keep things on track. Then Buddy Hall moves into the house across the street with his lovely wife Tia and shapely daughters Ashley and Emily (real-life twins Sabrina and Kelly Aldridge of 8th and Ocean). Buddy’s a likeable guy, but he feels invisible, which makes him want to put up a mammoth Christmas display bright enough to see from outer space. So up go thousands of lights, giant Santas, snowmen, synchronized music, and even live animals — including a donkey, camel, cow, and sheep.

With Christmas approaching, Buddy starts decorating his house with lights. This turns into an obsession when he decides he wants his house to be bright enough to be seen from space. Sandy Springs is decking the halls of City Springs with a set of holiday events, kicked off by the city’s first annual Christmas tree and menorah lighting. Prime Video has you covered this holiday season with movies for the family. That night, Buddy complains to Tia that while he can sell anything, he gets bored easily.

Another innovation was the arrival of electric lighting in the 1890s, which made possible the invention of fairy lights. Buddy gets a job as a used car salesman, but even though he’s very good at his job, he’s still trying to find his niche in life.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 6% based on 83 reviews with an average rating of 2.9/10. Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of “B–” on an A+ to F scale. Its decorations were mainly candles and small presents, which were often homemade food and sweets. By 1896 the tree might be accompanied by a display of printed Christmas cards bearing images of holly, mistletoe, seasonal food and bells. Newer images included robins and, of course, Father Christmas.

After discovering that the neighborhood can be seen on satellite photos via a website called MyEarth but that his house is not visible, Buddy decides to make it visible using Christmas lights. As his display grows bigger, including live animals, it gets Buddy known around town, upsetting Steve and threatening his position as “the Christmas guy” and chairman of the town’s WinterFest. Enmity grows between the men; in various incidents, Steve’s Christmas-card photo is ruined, his car doors are ripped off, and his private Christmas-tree lot is destroyed.
